THE CAFFEINE DRIP Restaurant

Welcome to The Caffeine Drip, where the tapestry of Scotland's vibrant capital city is laced and infused with a hint of South Africa, and where a unique touch of innovation meets the city's busy West End to bring you an all new coffee experience. From early morning until mid afternoon our upstairs takeaway serves coffees, hot chocolates, sandwiches, salads and more. Our coffee is sourced from the best producers, and we make sure we stock organic and fair-trade products wherever possible. If hot food is more your style, feel free to drop down into our main basement café - a cosy but colourful and vibrant basement venue - where you can indulge in a variety of breakfast and lunches. This is where you will be enveloped in a sensory explosion and given a truly unique cafe experience that is sure to live long in the memory. Low ceilings and endearing South African wall decorations; the smell of the only the finest coffee circling in the air as well as the pleasing sound and chatter of happy coffee drinkers and foodies. And who said Martini glasses were strictly for Martinis? Here at  The Caffeine Drip we are most certainly not conformists! Enjoy your specially chosen affogato in one of our very own Martini glasses! Or choose to have a Milkshake, freshly served in a recycled jar with straws. We also offer special shots of coffee topped with chocolate and cream - for that extra bit of kick and flavour!Takeaway of hot food is also possible from the main café.
The unprecedented idea for this unique Edinburgh café venue was the brain child of Christopher Wedge and Dariusz Wasilczyk, birthed into reality after a truly magical trip south of the equator to those rich and ancient African lands. As a result, that ever-present South African sentiment is never too far away.Choose to order a sandwich or panini served with fresh Biltong, the famous South African dried beef. Or try the equally famous Boerewors sausage (a mixture of pork and beef) in one of our much sought-after Boerie rolls. Many of our drinks are named after famous South African landmarks. For example, try our finest hot chocolate - Knysna - which is made from real chocolate; as are all our hot chocolate options. You may also feel free to try your hand at the African hide drum, which hangs on the wall of our extra-cosy and private bean room, tastefully decorated with empty bags of coffee beans. Or choose one of our other 35 downstairs seats, which are stylishly - but consciously - made from recycled pallet wood. This innovative recycled wood - a big plus for the environment - is also what cradles the vast array of cakes and pastries which are made fresh on a daily basis by or masterful and creative in-house bakers. We strive to meet everyone's needs, and so we also offer cakes which are vegan-friendly and gluten free. This same ethos runs through all of the food which we sell.So whether it's a quick ten minute breakfast break, a lunch with friends, or a late afternoon coffee to help you keep up with studies, stop by The Caffeine Drip and say hello. We're sure we will have just the right dose of exactly what is desired - by both your taste buds, and you heart!
10 Melville Place, Edinburgh EH3 7PR, Scotland

Just returned from a super 5 days in Edinburgh and we stayed around the corner from this little gem. Finally made it to The Caffeine Drip this morning for breakfast before we went back to the airport. Amazing selection of food, gorgeous décor, fabulous staff and all round wonderfulness....Service was spot on - friendly and fun and this place is a real find. Wish we had this café around the corner from where we do actually live! My son loved his bagels, husband's breakfast was spot on (he is very particular about his scrambled eggs but declared these ones delicious) and I had frankly the best chocolate milkshake I have ever had in my life. Spoke to the staff and the lovely chap in charge told us they had only been opened 3 months. Lucky Edinburgh - wishing The Caffeine Drip a long and successful tenureship and we will definitely, definitely be back. Cannot rate this place highly enough. Wished we'd gone for lunch too now! Good luck to all involved....
